At a very early age, I started playing guitar. I think the first real band was when I was 12. All the other members were older. Being the only possible lead singer, that was what I did, besides playing guitar.
I was one of those kids who knew what he wanted to do by 3rd grade. Me & my best friend at the time performed Beatle songs at recess when we were in 5th grade. Forward in time.. to high school, and I was already gaining  some respect from the same guys who knew I was  lousy at sports. Won the battle of the bands, played concerts at the school. Skipped gym class so much, I was in danger of not graduating. Then my music teacher, Dorothy DiDomenico said that a written report on what it takes to have a rock band would gain me 5 credits, so I could leave high school and pursue my professional music career.
